Asking AI Engineer to investigate a broken WordPress form

nabwp, ai-engineer

Ask WordPress AI Engineer to trace a broken form from the visitor's submission through validation and message delivery. Distinguish a form that cannot submit from a successful submission whose email never reaches the recipient.

01 Prepare a controlled example

Record the form page, visible error, time and whether the issue occurs while logged out. Identify the form plugin and recent changes if known. Use test contact details and a harmless test message instead of real customer data or credentials.

02 Guide the investigation

  1. Open AI Engineer for the affected website, preferably a staging copy that reproduces the issue.
  2. Describe the exact submission steps and expected destination.
  3. Ask it to inspect the relevant page response, logs, form configuration and available request evidence before changing anything.
  4. Review whether the failure is validation, a blocked request, plugin code, mail generation or downstream delivery.
  5. Approve a targeted fix only after understanding the affected settings or files.
  6. Repeat the form test and verify the final message at the intended test destination.

What is a useful prompt?

“This Contact form displays an error after Submit while logged out. Please diagnose the relevant logs and form configuration first. Do not disable spam protection or change recipient addresses without explaining the reason. Success means one test submission is accepted and arrives in our approved test inbox.”

Should I ask the AI to disable every security control?

No. A firewall, nonce or spam check may be involved, but removing all protection is not a justified repair. Ask for the specific blocked request and a narrow supported correction, then verify legitimate and invalid submissions.

Can the Engineer guarantee inbox delivery?

No. Delivery can depend on an external mail provider, recipient filtering and DNS authentication outside the form itself. Preserve the accepted-message or error evidence and use the relevant hosting or mail-support workflow when the problem is beyond the website.

03 Verify recovery and side effects

Check required fields, confirmation messages, spam handling and mobile usability. Do not repeatedly submit a live customer-facing form without controlling notifications. Keep a backup for configuration or database changes, and remember that file Undo does not reverse every form-plugin or mail-setting operation.
