Adjusting global spacing without changing every page

wordpress

Global layout and spacing controls can make a block theme more consistent without editing every page individually. Use them for site-wide defaults, then inspect local exceptions that may need separate attention.

01 Identify the spacing problem

Decide whether the issue is content width, outer page padding, space between blocks or padding inside a particular card. These controls solve different problems. A narrow page container cannot always be corrected by changing the margin on a paragraph inside it.

Choose representative pages with long text, columns, tables and forms. Record current settings or preserve a recovery point before making broad adjustments.

02 Change the correct default

  1. Open the Site Editor's Styles area and review Layout controls available in the active theme.
  2. Adjust supported content and wide widths or global padding only when those values match the intended site design.
  3. Review block spacing and block-type defaults for repeated components that need a consistent gap.
  4. Preview several templates and narrow widths before saving.
  5. Save the intended Styles object and recheck the public pages.

03 Preserve a readable rhythm

Use a small range of spacing values rather than unrelated numbers for every element. Keep headings visually associated with the paragraphs they introduce. Avoid reducing spacing so far that separate sections become difficult to distinguish.

On mobile, generous desktop padding can leave too little room for text. Use the responsive controls actually supported by your installed version and theme, or ask a developer for a targeted responsive rule rather than forcing a fixed desktop width.

Why does one page keep different spacing?

Local block margins, nested Groups and template-specific containers may override or compound the global change. Inspect the hierarchy in List View when one section remains different. Remove obsolete local workarounds only after understanding why they were added.

If every page suddenly overflows, restore the relevant global setting before changing dozens of child blocks. Check unbroken URLs, embeds and tables separately, since those can overflow an otherwise sound layout. A successful spacing change should improve the overall system while keeping important content readable and controls reachable at all tested widths.
