Keep information essential to understanding the sentence in the main text. Use a footnote for a source, qualification or optional detail that would otherwise make the paragraph difficult to read. Write enough information for readers to identify a source even if its link changes later.

1. Place the cursor at the intended reference point in a supported text block.
2. Open the text formatting options and choose the footnote action.
3. Enter the note in the generated Footnotes area. Include a descriptive source link where appropriate.
4. Repeat for other genuine references, then review the sequence and the note text.
5. Save and preview the article, testing both a reference marker and the return link.

When moving or removing a paragraph, check its footnote as well. Avoid manually typing superscript numbers and a separate numbered list, which can drift out of sync as the article changes. If content is copied from another document, verify that every reference survived and points to the intended note.

Keep notes concise and avoid using them to hide important conditions. A visitor reading on a small screen should be able to return to the original sentence without losing their place.

Test keyboard focus, links and readability at increased text size. Check that the theme does not make the footnote markers too small or low contrast. If a note opens an external source, use meaningful link text rather than a bare tracking URL.

If the Footnotes block is missing or duplicated, inspect List View and the content history before deleting sections. A copied reference may depend on the generated note structure. Preserve the text and use a draft to repair the relationship instead of manually renumbering a long published article without testing.
