Removing a redirecting domain pointer in DirectAdmin

control-panels, domains-dns

Remove a domain pointer when an additional domain should no longer redirect through the current account. Removing the panel entry does not cancel the domain registration or automatically configure the domain new destination.

Prepare for the change

Confirm the source pointer and target domain, and decide what visitors should see afterward. Record the current DNS, redirect and certificate configuration. If the domain is moving to another service, prepare that destination before removing working routing.

01 Remove a redirecting domain pointer in DirectAdmin

  1. Select the current target domain in DirectAdmin and open Account Manager > Domain Pointers.
  2. Locate the exact source domain and verify whether it is a redirecting pointer or alias.
  3. Select only the entry being retired and choose Delete. Read the confirmation before accepting.
  4. Review the domain DNS separately. Point it to its approved replacement or remove obsolete records according to the migration plan. Leaving it aimed at a server that no longer hosts it can produce an unexpected default page.
  5. Review certificates and any email or application references that still mention the removed domain. Do not alter unrelated main-domain services.

How do I confirm the removed pointer no longer redirects?

Confirm the pointer is absent and the source domain behaves as planned from an external browser or HTTP check. Verify that the original target site still works normally.

If the change does not work

If an old redirect appears after removal, test with a fresh client because permanent redirects can be cached. Also check the application, CDN and other server rules for a second redirect. If the wrong pointer was removed, recreate its recorded configuration and verify DNS and HTTPS before considering the recovery complete.
