A mailbox password is used by webmail and authenticated mail clients for that email address. Resetting it can stop a former device or user from connecting, but you should also review forwarding rules and account access when responding to a compromise.

01 Prepare for the change
Identify the exact full email address and list the legitimate devices or applications using it. Choose a new unique password and arrange a secure way to update those authorised users.
02 Reset an email mailbox password in SiteWorx
- Open Hosting Features > Email > Mailboxes in SiteWorx and locate the mailbox.
- Choose its pencil or edit action, enter and confirm the new password, and save without changing the quota or address unintentionally.
- Test a new webmail login using the full email address and new password. Keep the panel session available until this works.
- Update the password in each approved mail client, mobile device and application SMTP configuration. Pause repeated automatic retries from an old device while you update it.
- If compromise is suspected, inspect aliases, forwarding, filters and recent activity, and change any reused credentials elsewhere.
03 Confirm the intended access works
Incoming and outgoing mail should work with the updated credentials. A new connection using the old password should no longer authenticate, though an already established session may require separate review.
04 Example: verify a mailbox reset before troubleshooting mail delivery
After changing the mailbox password in SiteWorx, sign in to the mailbox's webmail interface using the new credential. A successful panel login does not prove the mailbox password is correct because those are separate accounts.
Update the authorised mail applications and any website or device that submits mail through that mailbox. Disconnect old client sessions and make a fresh test. Repeated failures from an overlooked phone or scanner can continue after your own computer has been corrected.
Does this change the hosting-account password?
A mailbox password reset should be treated as specific to that mailbox. Confirm which object you are editing before saving, and do not change an entire hosting account to solve one email client's password error.
Test sending and receiving separately. Authentication can succeed while delivery fails for another reason, such as routing, quota or filtering. Preserve the exact delivery error when that happens. Contact us with the affected mailbox and test time, without sharing the password. If you suspect unauthorised access, review forwarding and filtering settings and tell our team that the reset is part of a security investigation.
Why does a device still fail after the SiteWorx mailbox password reset?
If one device still fails, compare its username, server, encryption and port with the service settings before resetting again. Resetting a mailbox does not change the SiteWorx panel login. Never disable encryption to work around an authentication error.
